The SMART Visa is a special visa category introduced by the Thai government to attract talented professionals, investors, executives, and startup entrepreneurs to Thailand's targeted "S-Curve industries." These industries include digital technology, robotics, biofuels, aviation, medical technology, food innovation, automation, and more.
The SMART Visa offers significant advantages over traditional work visas, including no requirement for a separate work permit, longer validity periods, and annual reporting instead of 90-day reporting.
Four Categories of SMART Visa
- SMART Talent (T): For highly skilled professionals with a monthly income of at least 100,000 THB, employment contract or service agreement with a Thai government agency or company in a targeted industry, and expertise in science and technology relevant to S-Curve industries.
- SMART Investor (I): For investors with a minimum direct investment of 20 million THB in technology-related companies in Thailand's targeted industries. The investment must be made in companies that have been approved by the Board of Investment (BOI) or relevant government agencies.
- SMART Executive (E): For senior executives with a monthly income of at least 200,000 THB, at least 10 years of relevant work experience, and employment as a senior executive at a managerial level or above in a company operating in targeted industries.
- SMART Startup (S): For entrepreneurs planning to launch technology-based startups in Thailand. Applicants must have a deposit of at least 600,000 THB in a Thai bank account, health insurance, and be endorsed by a Thai government agency.
